Hygiene Therapy
Preventing Periodontal (gum) disease is the foundation for your smile. Fresh breath confidence is the other huge benefit of all hygiene therapies.
Our periodontal therapists are trained to provide you thorough, comprehensive, customized hygiene therapy and the knowledge of how to maintain this. This is important for your lifelong oral health, as well as you physical health.
Periodontal Disease
This is a low grade inflammatory condition for many adults. Our bodies respond to plaque and tartar that we may miss cleaning from around our teeth. Unfairly, some people produce more inflammation than others and will have more susceptibility to problems. Severe inflammation leads to gums and supporting bone around the teeth being destroyed. This means in simple terms: loose teeth!
Signs of gum disease include bleeding from gums on cleaning, swollen, red areas, gums receding, or a bad taste. Gum disease can however not give you any pain unless it is really advanced. At this stage there can be movement, loosening or even tooth loss. Periodontal disease is the biggest cause of tooth loss in adults. Smoking is also a major risk factor in gum problems.
Now for the good news!
Prevention is the key and for many adults, gum health can be maintained with proper home care which includes tooth brushing twice daily and use of floss or products for between the teeth. We supplement this with regular 6 monthly hygiene visits. Your periodontal therapist will be able to reach all those hard to reach areas that we call pockets.
Healthy gums are tightly attached to each tooth and have little or no gaps or pockets. Where the gums are less healthy and inflamed , these pockets are deeper and harder to clean by oneself. These areas harbor mouth bacteria that our bodies react to.
If it is a long time since you have had professional gum care or have specific problems then we can tailor treatments to your needs. First line treatment involves meticulous cleaning of plaque and the hard tartar from all areas around the teeth. Excellent home care is needed. We will give our most up-to-date advice on this and only advise products that we use ourselves.

Mission Statement and Philosophy of Practice
Our goal is to provide the highest quality of dental care with
exceptional service by going the extra mile before, during, and after treatment. We will thereby establish a lifelong partnership with our patients.
Our Patients are the most important visitors on our premises. They are not dependent on us; we are dependent of them. They are not outsiders in our practice; they are part of it. We are not doing them a favor by serving them; they are doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so.
We shall strive for excellence with all our patients. We shall set our goals to achieve total patient satisfaction with the highest quality treatment and exceptional service. We will leave each day proud that we did our best and that we provided cutting edge technology to our patients.
This type of care can only be accomplished by a group of people that work well together and enjoy doing so. Selection of staff will be made using these criteria. The staff and doctor will be kept up to date with recent advances by continuing education.
Our office will be a place to visit and our patients will be made to feel at home. We want our patients to be proud to tell others where they receive their dental care.

Gum Disease: also called Periodontal disease
If you have been told you have periodontal (gum) disease, you are not alone. An estimated 80 percent of American adults currently have some form of the disease.
CEREC - One visit crown
Let us face it, very few of us have perfect teeth, free of decay and fillings. You can probably see a filling or two in your own mouth, which do just that -- "fill" a cavity or hole in your tooth left from the excavation of decayed tooth structure. In many cases, those fillings are made of metal material that can fracture, weaken the tooth, or get additional decay under or around it. CEREC is a method used by our office to restore any tooth that is decayed, weakened, broken, etc. to its natural strength and beauty. Better yet, it is done in a single appointment with all-ceramic materials that are tooth-colored! So, how does the CEREC procedure work?
Examination and Preparation
First the tooth is examined and the appropriate treatment is determined. It could be a simple filling, or a full crown, depending on how much healthy tooth structure is remaining. Next, an anesthetic is administered and your tooth prepared for the restoration, removing decayed and weakened tooth tissue.
An Optical Impression of the prepared tooth is then taken. Instead of filling a tray with impression "goop" that you must bite into and hold in your mouth until it hardens, your tooth is coated with a non-toxic, tasteless powder. A camera is then used to take a digital picture of your tooth. This whole Optical Impression process only takes a minute or two.
No Temporaries!
Next, the CEREC machine creates the restoration for your tooth. The CEREC 3D software takes the digital picture and converts it into a 3-dimensional virtual model on the computer screen. The virtual model is used to design the restoration using the CEREC 3D computer program. Within a few minutes the restoration design data is sent to a separate milling machine in the office. A ceramic block that matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling machine. About 10-20 minutes later, your all-ceramic tooth-colored restoration is finished and ready to bond in place. Finally, the restoration is tried in your mouth to ensure a proper fit and bite. The restoration is then glazed in an oven and bonded to the prepared tooth. Your tooth is restored with no "temporary" or return trip necessary. All of this is done in a single appointment!

Laser tissue modification
Lasers are the latest technology for soft tissue modification and preventitave care. The laser vaporizes tissue to allow for dry field management and many other dental procedures normally performed surgically. Surface tissues are vaporized in a controlled manner, and the underlying connective tissue is coagulated and the resulting laser wound is self-sealing, requiring no suturing.
Lasers are used in a number of dental procedures
* Recontouring of tissue in between the teeth
* Soft Tissue Crown Lengthening
* Hemostasis
* Frenum Release
* Exposure of slow erupting teeth
* Soft Tissue curettage for periodontal treatment
* Reducing sulcular oral bacteria and other flora
Dental x-rays are a diagnostic tool that we could not do without. Radiographs can help the dental practitioner evaluate and definitively diagnose many oral diseases and conditions. Digital x-rays have better resolution, dramatically reduced radiation to the patient, and the ability to zoom into parts of the image. Digital dental X-ray is more friendly to the patient, and to the doctor.
With intraoral cameras, patient education is made simple by allowing you to see what we see. Intraoral cameras also illuminate and magnify areas allowing us to see things not normally seen with the naked eye.
The DIAGNOdent is a hand-held tool used to detect dental caries (cavities.) The DIAGNOdent uses laser technology to detect and quantify hidden or sub-surface caries by measuring laser fluorescence within the tooth structure. The DIAGNOdent is an extremely accurate, reliable and non-invasive method to aid in caries detection. The device has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the American Dental Association.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a metal device designed to replace missing teeth. The device is usually made out of titanium and is surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing. Unlike a dental bridge, an implant is permanent.
A dental implant is designed to act as the tooth root and can anchor an artificial tooth or teeth such as a crown, bridge or denture. For more information on dental implants and their applications, please visit the American Association of Maxillofacial Surgeons website.
When the nerve of a tooth becomes infected or traumatized, rooth cananl therapy may be necessary to save the tooth. During a root canal, the pulp, or nerves and blood supply are removed and filled with a rubberized material to seal the tooth.
Smoking is not only bad for our health, but also for our teeth and gum tissues. There is so much information available on the risks and conditions associated with smoking, as well as informaiton on how to quit. Here are just a few very informative websites.
We are currently accepting new patients. Although ninety percent of our patients are referred, we always look forward to seeing new, smiling faces. Please click on the links to the right to download the forms, then fill them out and bring them with to your reserved time or send them to:

When all of the teeth are missing in an arch, we may recommend complete dentures. With today's technology, we are able to stablize dentures with implants or even place fixed dentures that cannot be taken in and out to give a more natural appearance. When implants are used the bone is preserved, helping it stay healthy and in tact. With implant suppported dentures, there is no worry of the dentures coming out while chewing or talking as with conventional dentures.
This x-ray shows four implants placed in the lower arch to stabilize a lower denture and preserve the bone to prevent shrinking.
At our office we use custom made trays to achieve a brighter smile. We use NiteWhite made my Discus Dental which is the first take-home whitening kit that contains ACP (amorphous calcium phosphate) to reduce sensitivity and enhance whitening results.
When chosing material for an esthetic smile, we use natural looking, all-porcelain restorations. to achieve the best results. By using all porcelain, we are able to get a better translucency and light reflection to make the restoration look natural and beautiful.
The photos above show before and after of eight maxillary teeth using all porcelain crowns.
When a tooth is damaged by decay, one way to restore the tooth back to it's normal function is with a tooth-colored filling. Also called a composite filling, tooth-colored fillings allow us to remove little tooth structure and bond to the to to fill in where decay has damaged the tooth structure. Tooth colored fillings are a natural way to restore small areas of decay or loss of tooth structure.
